Superbly atmospheric single player modern war campaign with addictive, adrenalin-fuelled, promotion-based multi-player game.

 

 

Review comments

 

Call Of Duty 4 scored highly across the board with The Players, with MABarlow citing its "good multiplayer, great graphics and an excellent, if short, cinematic single player campaign" and giving it 9/10.  CFFIA also gave it 9/10 "mostly on the multiplayer", despite "a few connection glitches", before adding "a bit more functionality might be nice but the gameplay once you are in is excellent".  CFFIA has familiar comments on the single player mode, which is "underrated" and "excellent, if a little brief".

 

The_Stott goes a little but further, awarding it 9.5/10, arguing that "it's better than Resistance [Fall Of Man], definitely on graphics, but isn't as easily accessible in multiplayer".  However, despite the high mark, there is still some "room for improvement in the first-person shooter category".  For example, there are still residual "hosting issues" and "the perks idea is unfair to newcomers", a point that is backed up by mike_mayhem3030 ("perk system is bad for balance on multi-player").

 

But the "graphics are amazing" continues mike_mayhem3030, admitting not having played the single player campaign much and plumping for the common 9/10 mark, matched once more by Ogasawara2 ("must-own PS3 game").  Spacemanmf originally awarded this 8.5/10, but it should really be 9/10 now.
